diesel in radiator

Post by wizardman »

hey guys, im new here and just finding things out.

ive got a 1998 wizard 3.0l turbo. i was just going to check my tyre preassures and i saw gallons of liquid pouring our the frount of the car. it was comming out of the radiator overflow. a milky wight colour. it smelt strong of diesel so i assume its get in some how. someone thought it might be a head gasket but the oil is fine and i lost heaps of fluid but i have no idea. the engine starts and runs fine but its parked now as im afriad to damage it. any help with this issue would be great.

cheers

To get that much diesel in the water i would have to say it is comming from your injector pump.
I think you have a blown seal somewhere.

What engine - 4JX1?
Had you done any work on it recently?
Had it overheated recently?
I would have thought that the only chance fuel and coolant would have to mix would be in the injector/head area.

Doesnt sound good. That engine does have a habit of contaminating oil with diesel which is very bad but Ive never heard of it contaminating the coolant before. A quick look through both the coolant and fuel section of the manual yielded no clues. Check the fuel lines to make sure a device hasnt been added that preheats the fuel This should be in the top radiator hose. The theory is that heating the diesel reduces smoke and consumption and they may work on older style engines but I wouldnt fit one to this engine. If its there it might be leaking.
Otherwise this is new and will require a mechanic thats experianced on this engine. Not going to be cheap I think sorry
Do check the fuel tank for water as well

i dont know what engine it is and cant fine out at the moment being the car is at work
we havent had any work done on the engine recently apart from the brakes
engine has never over heated since i have owned i

we had just filled the tank and the window washers and then it happend down the road.

it seemes the only options i have is to check if the is a device or send it to a garage.

thanks for helping

If the engine looks like a old hilman hunter engine but different its the 3.1 4jg2
if it looks like a fancy double overhead cam engine with covers everywhere its the famous 4jx1. Also if the chassis no starts ubs 69 its the older motor or ubs73 its the newer engine.
Unfortunately you might be borrowing dads credit card for this one. Nothing on that engine is simple or cheap. Get a quote for any work.

I'm with you Geeves the only way you can get that much diesel in the rad is thru some sort of fuel heater that works off of your engine coolant, are you sure its diesel and not automatic transmision fluid, that's of course if you have a auto trany??
