Roof Racks/Tent

Post by codynapper »

Hi Guys,

New to this site,, ive been contemplating for mooonths now on getting a roof tent however my '98 Wizard only has the side rails (factory) i was wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with the roof tents and installing them, like do i need proper roof racks to mount the tent, other vehicles ive seen full on rhino racks holding their tents up, any help appreciated.

Cheers

I looked at the idea when I had a wizard but didnt go ahead. Those rails are plenty strong enough but you will probably need side rails. Main reason I didnt go ahead was the fact that it would rock a fair bit in the wind unless you put jacks under all 4 corners and the wife wasnt so fussed on getting up and down a ladder for midnight calls of nature. Ended up staying with a regular tent

Rino and Thule both make rails that clip straight on to the current bars. A trademe search will find cheaper options as well. One setup I had though which looked very tidy was a factory Subaru Lagacy side rail. This was shouter than the the wizard required but I had some of the correct bar at home The result sat flush with the roof rails. I sold it with my wizard
