Hi all looking for some advice, I have access to a low KM Jap import 4JG2 engine from a bighorn what is clear it has a an injector pump that runs off an ECU by all the connectors running off it and is belt driven.
My Jack has an older 4JG2 T mechanical pump that is gear driven unfortunately the block has expired.
Does any know if you can convert the Japanese EFI variants of the 4JG2 using the older mechanical pumps from my older engine?
Just don't wont to buy and pull the Jap engine apart to find out the block is not 100% the same across the generations.
Thanks

Re: 4JG2 Injector Pump Variants
very interested in pics of a gear driven 4JG2 fuel pump.
As I would one day like to connvert my belt setup to gear dive.
Reasons:
Belts are a pain in the ass to change.
The timing belt covers are plastic, cant be bought new & I was told by a plastic welder that the type of plastic cant be welded.
also the covers do hole, Ive had to epoxy one up to keep crap out.
As your 4jg2 grows tired the Cam seal will weap (my need a speedy sleeve) onto your timing belt.

Re: 4JG2 Injector Pump Variants
If you have a low klms engine you can get just take the pump off your old engine and swap the timing cog off the efi pump to your old pump for the timing belt set up that's the way I would be doing it instead of stripping down engines.
The belt drive engines are a lot quieter running so you change the belt every 100.000klms easy enough to do.
And you already have your wiring for the old pump set up to plug in to it.

Thanks Stardog,
Not much info on the EFI pump would had thought it was totally different set up from the gear drive and would probably run on a different gear ratio at least. Will have a closer look.

Re: 4JG2 Injector Pump Variants
efi pumps run of a computer ecu the motors are the same the mechanical pump you set the timing of the belt cog holes that line up and put 2 8mm bolts in the holes so the timing don't move and then do the static timing on the pump.

This is photos of the belt drive injector pump.

hi JackTragic , did end up converting to a Belt setup?
Re: 4JG2 Injector Pump Variants
Hi Ben
I know he got hold of a belt drive engine and I sold him a injector pump for it that was a while ago now.
I haven't heard back from him but im sure he has his 2 old pumps up for sale on eBay 1 is gear drive from his old engine.
He was going to let me know how he went swapping everything over but never let me know.

Hi Stardog and MUVIT ,
Sorry guys been busy got the Jack on the road a month ago running like a champ so far, the engine I picked up was very low Ks. Reused the turbo and inter cooler, pulley and fan from the old engine. Took it for a long run down the coast got a slight over temp issue under load at speed on hills I think the viscous fan might need replacing its not loosing coolent or over fuelled.
What I can tell you is the blocks are all the same, the gear pumps are near identical if not the same to the 4jb1 two bolt flang as to three with the belt.
Used Steves belt pump I re o ringed it just to be safe, was a little sticky.
MUVIT I did send you a email via the site to see if you still wanted the pics of the old pump. Could not load the pics on the site due to the file size. Steve is correct the two pumps are on ebay if you want a look.
Thanks for your help
