3.1 bighorn manual conversion, will the 2.8 mu box fit?

Post by rsole »

Hey guys any help here would be great
I recently bought a 3.1 bighorn with a broken cambelt, replaced the cambelt a hoped for the best.
it started and i soon discovered all the push rods were well bent. after being quoted more than the truck was worth for new rods i flogged some out of a 2.8 (strangely these were the same length and alot thicker.
since then ive founds its a great truck to drive but the auto sucks. passing manouvers are fine at 100ks if you can keep it in top gear, usually it decides to change down halfway past whatever you're passing. Not great when you run out of revs halfway past a truck.
Last week i sourced the rest of the 2.8 mu that i robbed the pushrods out of and am wondering will the manual box fit? also are the gear ratios the same? i dont want the bighorn to be singing soprano at 100ks if you know what i mean
thanks in advance guys :D

It has been done before but its more than a gearbox. You also have a clutch and clutch peddle The crossmember needs modifying which can lead to certification issues and the driveshafts are different
Final ratio is the same though
You may be able to tweak the tps to get the aiuto behaving better
