Good evening all experts,
Today when my mrs was drving our 1992 isuzu bighorn 4gj2, The power steering oil pump pulley where the two belts are attached just got broken, I don't know how, It was making some noises already, i had looked at it, but i couldn't understand that noise was comming from there maybe, I tighten the bolt which i assume is the tensioner just under it, but it didn't work, may be i did tight it too much that caused the pulley to break, Now do i have to replace the pulley only or the whole pump etc? Thank you in advance.
Power steering pump pulley Snapped.
Re: Power steering pump pulley Snapped.
How did you get red text?
Is it the pulley or shaft?
I have a spare pulley at home but if its the shaft then the pump needs rebuilding. Might be easier to get a pump from the wreckers

Re: Power steering pump pulley Snapped.
Just re read your post
When it was making noises were they squealing or gurgling or a rumble?
Squeal would be loose belts and the adjuster is the bolt that runs across the front of the engine but you have to loosen the 2 bolts into the front of the engine and the nut on the back of the pump before it will do very much. Correct tension is when a finger push on the top of the belt pushes it down about 1.5 cm. You will need these same bolts to take the pump off
Rumble can be dirty belts If so a few drops of water dropped on the belt with the engine running will make it go away for a minute or so. Not a huge amount you can do to fix except replace belts that are probably still quite good Some cleaners might work as might candle wax but not always Be careful applying candle wax as there are several moving parts there and they all want to feed on skin
Rumble can also be the bearing in the pump either worn out or over tight It will turn into a gurgle which will be accamanied by the power steer fluid going pink and overflowing This is because the pump is sucking air and foaming the fluid. New seal and bearing kit will fix. If this gets too bad the shaft can break and if you are real unlucky the pulley can hit and damage the radiator

Re: Power steering pump pulley Snapped.
Shaft should be poking out of that hole. Do you have the missing part?

I replaced all the belts when i was doing time belt just few months back, The noise it started was after when i replaced that wee part which was broken last time if you remember when i was asking for your help, i just easy flowed it, the noise that coming was like metal to metal dry metal.. I was thinking to make its video when go back from work but it broken before that..
