How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
I have a new 2014 ls-t D-max , it's just done 3000Km,and the electronic Speedo reads 7Km slow at 100Km/Hr, the Dealer says it's within acceptable limits and will not recalibrate it under warranty. Anyone know how to go about recalibrating the Speedo? I want to keep it as standard and am not interested in putting on larger tyres
Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
anything you do will void the warrentee. Bigger tyres though shouldnt be an issue Just going from a 245x70x16 to 245x75x16 will half that error If you go for a nice set of larger diameter mags the tyre choises to fix this become almost endless.
My work hilux is even worse. a gps 100 is 108 Think of that on diesel tax day. Do also think how much it improves your economy (on paper)

Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
law is as long as its within 15 percent of the speed indicated on the gauge, if you want to carry on trying to get it closer try anything electronic in nelson they are pretty good or will point you in the right direction
Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
I checked the odometer and speedo using a GPS , the Odometer was spot on over a 20Km run so no Diesel Tax issues but the speedo was another story!
Have approached the dealer, whose initial response was "not a warranty issue as it's within tolerance, but will check with Isuzu NZ."
if I try to fix it myself I will void the warranty, and putting a new $70,000 vehicle in to the dealer to have the speedo re calibrated at my expense is just not right

Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
7% is legal but still a lot
Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
Well if 7 - 15 percent is regarded as fine and you get a ticket for speeding even if you travel the correct speed on the speedo, ( remember only a 4 KPH tolerance) are the dealers going to pay the ticket????? Also what about the demerit points???
I know tours is under the correct speed as is my Mu by 11 kph,
BUT it is an interesting question if the speedo is reading slow!

I read recently that for wof purposes a speedo is not allowed to read low but can read up to 10% high. I never got pinged in the old bighorn with about 8% high but did once nearly get caught out when I was at a Scout Jamboree and the other Leaders car blew up. (It was a Hilux) His partner picked up my Bighorn from my place and drove it to Feilding so we caould get all the gear home. She commented on how slow everyone else was driving and she had been cruising all the way from wellington at 110kph with everyone else virtually standing still. 110 was really 119 No tickets arrived in the mail luckily. Guess I would of had to pay them

Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
No joy with the jaycar unit, it will only correct the earlier type Digital speedo not the the newer cam bus digital system on the D-max,
Have been talking to speedo Tec's around the country and the consensus is that this type of speedo can only be corrected via the computer software or by steping up tire size to compensate for the speedo error. I have been in touch with the Isuzu dealership requesting to have the speedo corrected at my expense, however they told me that they couldn't recalibrate it and there was nobody in town who could!

Re: How can you recalibrate the electronic speedo
Some insider information:
Speedos are set from factory to read a certain percentage high on most modern vehicles, this is so that customers cannot blame the manufacturer for any speeding tickets they may get by saying the speedo reads wrong. I work for a ford dealership and we get customers complaining about this all the time, basically since GPS became a fairly common thing to have in a vehicle, but there is nothing we can do about it to correct it and keep a new vehicle warranty active.
I can also view the car configuration files via our diagnostic tool to check the % that the speedo should be out by and then conduct a road test to confirm this, 99.99999% oof the time its correct, i did have ONE car however that read low (i.e was doing 107ish when indicating 100 on needle AND digital speedo) instead of high and it was corrected by replacing the cluster.
