First car - Isuzu MU

Post by nb422 »

Hi everyone my name is Jordan, and I am from Hamilton, NZ. I bought my first car 3 months ago for $900. It is a 4jb1 1993 Isuzu MU with 193,000km on the clock.
Was so cheap due to a broken cambelt, another cambelt kit and a set of rockers and pushrods and the truck purrs.
The truck runs very well, and I have it ready for the road yet I am still 3 months away from getting my learners.. Test drove it at a farm the other day with my dad and one other guy from the 4wd club, and really liked it. My family does alot of four wheeling, as my dad is part of the Cozzie Four Wheelers. Will eventually get modified for off road, with the basics such as tyres, snorkel and cb radio first on my list. Also for a project one day I would like to fabricate some brush bars and a winch mount/bullbar (any tips/ideas would be much appreciated).
Will add pictures as I do various things to it :)

Modifications and Accessories:

Suspension:Stock
Body Lift:0
Tyres/Wheels: Standard rims and road tyres
Traction Aids: (LSD, auto lockers or Air/electric lockers etc)Stock
Bullbar:Aliarc Nudge bar
Spot lights and Lighting: Factory but plan on adding roofrack mounted spotlights
Communications/GPS:None Yet
Dual Batteries:No
Engine: 2.8td 4jb1
Exhaust:Stock but EGR Blanked
Sound system:Panasonic head unit
External: (any other bits you've done, snorkle, rock, sliders/bar work, roof rack, boonet scoops flares etc)
Internal: (any interanl mods, like false floor, water storage, storage slide etc)
Plans:
Fabricate winch mount, bullbar and brush bars
Snorkel
Intercooler
CB Radio
Decent tyres

My truck..'Muppet'. The tyres I borrowed from my dad off his mu 'Mut', and my truck has managed to gain the name 'Muppet' (due to the driver hahah) P1090617.JPG

And below is my dad's truck 'Mut', is a bit beaten up but is quite capable and is a trailer truck.

Agree, nice truck and a good score for that price!
What size are those wheels and tyres on it in that pic?

32x10.5 r15 on 15x7 1/2 rims, not 100% sure if that the correct rim size but i think thats what i read stamped on them :)
Fit perfectly except the front right hand part of the bumper was a little bent when i bought it and that resulted in the tyre pulling it down, but this is without winding the torsion bars or anything. :)

Right so i have invested in a set of 31's (Maxxis Mudder Buckshots) $880 for a set of four new, and just a little more saving to do to get the rims i want from 4wdbits. Went through a warrant check as its now coming off hold and failed on a loose nudge bar and a rotted exhaust tailpipe. Very close to getting on and off road with my truck now :D
As some would say 'it's all downhill from here' :P

Last week i received my new tyres, and this morning my new rims. Fitted and balanced them today and really like how they look.

For my wof i had to replace the tailpipe, so to do something different we've cut it off behind the muffler and plan on having a twin exit pipe one on either side beside the leaf spring mount in front of the diff. Still stock size but is effectively a straight through system and sounds quite nice :D

Next im considering doing a diy snorkel, so any tips would be great? :)
