Anybody tried running a bigger airbox to get less restriction on their intake? Found one out of a 3.0l jackaroo, 3" in, 3"out. With a better filter. As opposed to my standard 2 1/4" in out. Was just thinking if im going to run a 3" snorkel why not make the biggest restriction point a reducer onto the tiny turbo. Also jackaroo turbo seemed to have a 2"intake.... Would i be asking for engine trouble if i went bigger turbo
?
bigger airbox
Re: bigger airbox
bigger turbo in general will mean a higher engine speed before it does any work Also more power but at an even higher rpm. Since the diesel is limited to 4300 you cant get the higher rpm. My 2.8 is only just dropping away from 14 psi boost at 4300 the 3.1 holds 14 all the way to the limiter or when the wastegate jams its still above 20 at that point so the turbo is breathing as hard as its able.
What exhaust mods do you have? Getting rid of the exhaust efficiently will also improve boost and has the bonus of reducing exhaust temperature.

Re: bigger airbox
Are the standard 3.1 turbos ball bearing? If not they would greatly benefit from fitting a similar size or even a little bigger ball bearing type. They have much better spool up time and sound unreal! Dat Turbo Noise!
