Hi, can anyone help me? I have a 92 Mu, push headlight switch on and no go, with the switch on I now pull dip switch and headlight will work. I replaced dash switch an still the same problem, I have power to headlights on all three pins which ain't right, Is the number 3 pin meant to be earthed??
Cheers
Headlight probs
Re: Headlight probs
I dont know if this is your problem but recently I had to sort a car with burnt bulb sockets. They were cheap enough to sort out put a pain to replace the sockets
Re: Headlight probs
The lighting system is negative switching. It's sort of back to front to what you are probably used to.
The light switch on the dash cluster supplies positive (+) to the bulbs through a main lighting relay. The stalk on the steering column selectively earths (-) either low or high beams through two further relays (or both if you are flashing high beam I think).
Do your lights only work when flashing high beam? This does not involve the dash cluster switch.
From memory there are only three relays involved. One to supply power to the whole lighting circuit and one each for the left and right hand side headlights that switch between high and low. I think that it is the two latter relays that the stalk control switches.
Has your lighting system been modified to take higher wattage bulbs and perhaps have had additional relays/fuses fitted?
Are your bulbs both ok?

Re: Headlight probs
If it was mine Id be checking for a crook dip switch, Id also check the dip and hi beam fuses
Re: Headlight probs
With dash switch on headlights will only work off the dip switch, they still switch between hi an low but seem to be not at full potential, sometimes if I hold dip switch on for a while lights will stay on, can anyone tell me where all lighting relays are, Thanx
Re: Headlight probs
Lights will not flash unless dash switch is on
Re: Headlight probs
I think I found problem with lights? Unplugged connection
Block under steering column and found
Centre black wire burnt out, can I bypass plug
With this wire by joining it straight through ???
I will connect plug back
Cheers

Re: Headlight probs
If it was mine I'd be looking for the cause of the burn up before re connecting otherwise Murphy's law it'll burn up where you cannot get at it.
As the wire is burnt, I'd be checking the fuses are the correct rating
I would fit a spare headlight bulb in series with the burnt wire, it'll glow bright when the fault is present and dim a little when not faulting.
