When cheap turbo's go boom...

Post by fujitsubo »

Brought a ebay turbo for the 3.1 bighorn awhile back it has lasted around 40,000kms of pretty hard driving, lot's of towing/high temperatures etc.
Never made any noise's until the other day when hitting a hill towing a couple of ton, put my foot down and BANG
the shaft snapped.Luckily no engine damage as most of the metal got stuck in my very oily intercooler and inlet manifold.
Anyhow just thought I'd post this up so people can see how long these cheap turbo's may last it cost $250 delivered.DSCN0776.JPG

I had a cheap one which destroyed its bearings in less than 6 months.

Just wondering what you ended up replacing it with. Or what other members recommend. I am in the market for two 4JG2 turbos and have been tempted with chaper ebay ones.....
Any tips much appreciated.

Probably the original turbo off a 4jb1 would be better than the factory one off a 4jg2. Because they seem to hold together longer.
