Gday. After fueling up and travelling 2 hours straight at 110kph today my water trap light came on. I have an aftermarket water trap which isnt wired up where the old one should be. I pulled over anyway and the motor missed a bit when i went to take off again and then ran excellent until I got home, 260kms later, most of that was 110kph. The light has not come on and the motor hasnt played up since. Why would the light come on if it isnt hooked up?
Cheers

Re: Water trap light coming on
Check for water anyway
Could be the float jumped on a bump. If its afermarket though we cant help

Re: Water trap light coming on
Thanks geeves but it doesnt have a fault and its not wired into anything. Can the light come on anyway if the alternator is on the way out or something?
Re: Water trap light coming on
Float I meant, not fault
Re: Water trap light coming on
First I trust you checked for water. Every water trap Ive worked on consisted of a float that would sink in diesel but float in water operation the light at a certain amount of water. Its not fail safe but thats another story I choose not to tell. Only other way to do this would be a conductivity sensor. Diesel doesnt conduct but water does unless its very pure. What system does it use?
Wiring fault is possible
