manual or auto? 2.8 manual box has a differen output setup
I expect it is possible as it would of been assembled in the factory that way but at the same time I expect it to be easier to split them unless you have a lot of room.

Thanks geeves, the engine and manual trans are out of my donor truck ( 91), the truck Im putting it in is a 92 (later body style).
Mounts seem to be different but until I pull out the 3.2 I cant really tell.. Did a search but couldnt find anything specific to my swap plans

no one has done a write up on changing a 3.2 to 4jb1. As long as the mounts on the chassis are the same it shouldnt be toooo hard. If you have to modify the mount try to avoid welding. Cerifiers dont like that

92 what?
Bighorn/Jackeroo = 4jg2 3.1
Mu = 4jb1 2.8 with belt driven cam
Rodeo = 4jb1 with gear driven cam
For a conversion there isnt a huge difference between the engines. For performance the 4jg2 is most powerfull but uses more fuel. The belt driven engines have slightly more power but not enough to notice

97 was the first of the gear driven rodeos, pre 97 they had mu motors in them

V6 and the I4 diesels were positioned differently,
though it looks pretty straight forward to make the mount adapters out of whatever the metric equivalent of 3/16" thick x 2" angle iron is.
I can link to the post or pull over the images, once I dig that back up.

Factory would have put engine and trans on chassis, then added the body later.
For the hassle I'd be splitting them. Would make it a heap easier. Only way I'd try it as one would be if I had a proper gantry crane

Update. I have a 94 rodeo with gear driven 4jb1t and 5 speed manual for donor vehicle. Since the mounting plates for the 3.2 are different from the 4jb1 I will take the brackets from the 3.2 and drill them to fit the diesel block. This been done before ?
Also the donor 4jb1t has 416,000 k on the clock, the fuel screw cap was intact, oil pressure cold at idle about 600 kpa, 250 kpa hot at idle. Seems like a good engine :D
