Just installed second hand engine in my 92 Bighorn. Not a mechanic so when things don't go good - at a loss.
Engine idles ok although a little white smoke. It has no pick up or power. where should I start looking?
Probably common question but can't seem to find an answer. Don't know a lot about engines so unable to understand a lot of technical jargon.
please help
4jg2 idle ok no power and white smoke
Re: 4jg2 idle ok no power and white smoke
Were you able to test drive the engine in the donor vehicle?
Re: 4jg2 idle ok no power and white smoke
No it came from Isuzu Specialists in Auckland. Had to install my old injector pump. Learnt all about timing and think it is correct. Followed all the notes online about lining up the lock bolts. Think that part is ok
Re: 4jg2 idle ok no power and white smoke
White smoke is unburnt diesel, you need to check the static injector pump timing with a dti gauge in the rear of the injector pump, 12mm head bolt in the middle of the injector pipes, every engine is different so when changing pumps you always have to check it

Wouldnt have a clue on the white smoke. My 4JG2 has power problem plus a scream
I have confirmed a bad exhuast manifold gasket and exhuast flange gasket. But am expecting to have a cracked exhuast manifold also.
That may not help you at all. But it can give you an idea. As im not sure how bad your power loss is, mine runs fine its just gutless due to boostleak
