The roofrack weight limit for the Sportivo is given at around 30kg . Has anybody carried anything heavier 'upstairs' .......and got away with it ?

With a properly fitted roof rack it will hold more than that but that weight is up high which will make the vehicle less stable. You will get more body roll and increase the chance of roll over.
I would suggest 50kg would be a safe limit which is the same as most vehicles

Distribute the weight equally if possible, and make it as low as possible to get a better air flow. Roof racks and some large objects will decrease the gas mileage.

I was going to rooftop a plastic dinghy weighing 45 kg .......its a reasonably aerodynamic shape .
