Hello. I'm new to the any sort of mods and don't know my way around an engine bay yet so these Questions may seem basic to you but only one way to find out.
- What's EGT? Something to do with exhaust? And can it be removed by replacing the exhaust?
- Why do most people go 2 1/2 inch not 3 inch exhaust?
- How do I wind up boost and fuel when new exhaust is fitted?
- How / where do you install a boost gauge?
- Think I'll up grade and up size exhaust first then fuel and boost tweak then work on bull bars and recovery hooks and wind torsion bars. Don't have much cash to spend and I'm a welder so most of this I want to do my self to get my head around it all. Is there anything else I haven't considered or forgot about that is a good and cheap mod for 4x4in?
Cheers.
Willy.

Re: New to modifications.
And I'll also make a snorkel too.
Re: New to modifications.
EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature. Is simply the measuring of the exhaust gas temperature. Usually for tuning or fault finding purposes.
You may have been thinking about EGR? EGR = Exhaust Gas Reticulation (or maybe Recycling). This is a system designed/used to clean up emissions. Under certain conditions it funnels some of the exhaust gasses back into the Intake Manifold via the two vacuum operated valves bolted to your Intake Manifold and connected to your exhaust by a pipe that crosses over the back of your motor. This system can normally be disabled or removed completely.
You may also have been thinking of the QWS (Quick Warm-Up System) which are two vacuum operated butterfly valves, one in your intake system and one in your exhaust. These too can also generally be removed or disabled.

Re: New to modifications.
Exhaust size Im guessing you have a 2.8 which is pretty much unrestricted with a 2.5 inch exhaust There is a minor gain going to 3 but the exhaust can double in cost so unless you are after every last horsepower out of your engine or are playing with non standard turbos and big boost the gains dont justify the extra cost. Even the 3.1 doesnt gain that much going from 2.5 to 3 inch. All turbo engines do benifit from larger exhausts but there are limits where the actual gains are minute. Your engine has max revs at 4000 and with a turbo pumping in 14psi will flow about the same exhaust gas as a 3l unboosted pettrol engine at 7000 rpm or a 2 litre petrol turbo engine boosted to 10 at the same revs
Re: New to modifications.
Rite so finally got my truck back from my mate that was fixing some issues for me. When it snapped the timing belt it broke 2 rocker and bent the push rods so when we fixed that she smoked like a barsted. Turns out it was down on compression in two cylinders by around 120psi with some bent valves. Now all cylinders are up at 400 psi or there abouts also with new gaskets it's not leaking around the exhaust ports. Next step snorkel and larger exhaust. Also I think the turbo is getting a bit sad and might need replacing soon. Can I put a 3.1 model turbo on my 2.8? I might need some help on how to wind up my fuel and boost if anyone can help a rookie with some guidance there I'd be stoked. And should that only be done after the larger exhaust is fitted?
Cheers.

Re: New to modifications.
400psi is pretty damn low for a diesel?? My engine is in the same situation as yours, 300psi in cylinders 3 and 4 vs 520psi in 1 and 2, has bent valves from snapped cambelt too
Re: New to modifications.
I had always thought that 440psi was about normal.
Re: New to modifications.
When mine went to turbo and diesel they told me 500 was considered average
Re: New to modifications.
I'd based my figure on this...maybe Isuzu are a bit lower than some other brands.
Re: New to modifications.
Just confusing a bit haha, cause both my motors are up 500ish, but if it still runs mint then dont worry about it
