Should I open up this string again. Like JackDriver I am looking at replacing the over engineered complicated 4JX1. Bazza2541 did it and I know a couple of success stories. No one has tempted to mention these........

Wonder why? Made under license by Isuzu for light trucks brand new $3000 to Aus. Bolt pattern most likely the same and has all the bits and bobs. Quality, well who knows. So what is the consensus? If the DMF is used, which I would like to avoid, how come the tacho doesn't work - doesn't this work off the timing marks? Great forum thanks guys. Cheers

That website suggests a minimum quantity. You could shout every member a new engine
Re: 4JX1 to 4JG2 help please
Geeves.........For illustrative purposes only! If they are crap engines, I’d probably have you lot after me with pitch forks, even if I did buy the lot. Some suppliers have min quantity of 1 and I was quoted US2700 and US 120 to get it to Aust, cheaper than a rebuild kit. Looking at the pics they seem to have a similar bolt pattern. Looks as though I am going to have to be the guinea pig. I will update you all with my progress. I am running B50 (home made) so lets see how long the 4JX1 will last!

Re: 4JX1 to 4JG2 help please
Conversion is finished now, although I'm having our fuel pump rebuilt and tweaked next week, and I might consider plumbing the 4JX1 intercooler in one day.
Thanks to those who helped with comments.
I'm planning to document the 4JB1 into Jackaroo 4JX1 conversion, in the hope I might be able to help people who've been stuck with lemon 4JX1s like mine. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who would make use of this.

There are enough people around that have had enough of that engine. Not all are members but this would give an option to those that have a troublesome version of that engine. It will also add hidden value to those trucks that appear on the market with bad engines.
I wouldnt mind picking up a Frontera/wizard with a bad engine and doing this conversion myself.

Thanks guys for the inspiration. Likewise, if I am successful in the conversion I will give back to these forums. I took the beast out on a romp through mud and bush today and came out with a dent in the door, broken bumper light and a smile on my face, I love the car, so sure footed. cheers

Re: 4JX1 to 4JG2 help please
Hi all i have a couple quick questions about this conversion
1- Can i use 4JB1(rodeo) clutch/flywheel/pressure plate in 4JX1 box? Would i need to change bellhousing/clutch cylinder/starter?
2- does rodeo box bolt into Jackaroo?
