Coolant system questions for 4JB1T swap into '89 Trooper

Post by manders »

Hello to all!

My gas engine was having problems and I stumbled on a chance to pick up a 4JB1T with the accompanying MUA transmission ... so I jumped!!! :lol:

I've found a good bit of info on this site, PlanetIsuzoo, 4x4wire.com, etc., but nothing that is a 110% answer to my current quandary.

Here's some pics:

Here's my first guess for the "simplest" connections:

B -> C -> Z
and
A -> D -> Y

But I may have those backwards and/or otherwise totally mixed up. :P

As for the oil cooler, I've read in other posts that the 'factory' configuration involves another brass/alloy pipe that connects to the back of the engine and then has a couple heater hoses to connect to the cooler. But since I don't have that ... I'm not even gonna venture a guess about possible connections. :wink:

I appreciate the assistance.

MAnders.

so long since I had to play with this and its impossible to see in place.

D and C go to Z and Y Not sure what Z is
E goes to either M or N and there should be a T piece in the other pipe pipe to attach the other cooler pipe.
It might be part of the metal pipe assembly that is missing. This also contains a thermostat but it will work without it. You will just have to run straight hoses.

Might first guess was completely backwards! I've often said that if you give me a 50/50 chance ... I'm 100% certain to screw it up! :wink:

Just to confirm, I think you mean D -> Z, and C -> Y. Correct?

Do you mean you are not sure what "X" is? If so, I think this might be an air conditioner condensation outflow, as I cannot make out any potential connection on the 4ZE1 engine.

I appreciate the assistance ...

I could have them wrong as well Always take a top pipe to a top pipe and bottom to bottom to prevent air locks yes I got x and z swapped
