Right, now that Ive got the power I want out of this 2.8L Mu I think its time to jack it up somewhat (also the rear has sagged like an old ladies boobs... Not nice).
Ive been looking at my lifting options - body lift, extended shackles and new leaf springs- I think im keen on new leaf springs. As I understand I can get away with a 2inch lift (which will be more due to the origionals sagging) without needing a cert- correct?
Is that the max without a cert?
Also I have been on the hunt for suppliers and prices but looks like I will have to ring around as all I have found on the net is this: http://old.4wdstuff.co.nz/node/45
Anyone know where I can get the best price on a pair?

4x4bits are quite competitive nowdays but try the other local auto stores Repco used to sell Maxtrac brand springs
The current rules dont state a height for a suspension lift but do say the springs must of been designed for that vehicle. Mechanic isnt even going to look at them to see what they are at 50mm or less. Shackle lift and body lift will always require cert. There were moves afoot to change the rules to where the wof guy could ok any lift up to a total of 100mm but above that couldnt even be certed ( at the time NZ4WD assoc were trying to arrange an excemption card system) but Im not sure where that ended Hopefully the too hard basket. 100mm does sound a lot but factory tyres are 29 inch so 33s mean 50mm then springs of 50mm and forget a body lift

Thanks for that Geeves- emailed 4wdbits who promptly got back to me with the following:

"We have some new springs which will be test fitted to a MU in the next week
or so. All going well they will be available in a couple of weeks.
The springs will be $516 for the pair, freight to Wellington $11.50."

So that sounds pretty good- will be checking repco soon aswell.

Geeves, standard tyres for a 4JB1-T Mu are 31".

Will do Geeves, called repco and supercheap- they both have to get back to me on monday.
I have 31' tyres on it at the moment as a side note. I hope the new set are a bit stiffer- the current ones sit 1/2 into the travel before you even get moving! I also hit the rear bumpstops on a daily basis- not trying either.

Intriguingly I had a set of Lovells springs from a car place in Petone that delt more with the race car crowd Cant remember there name It was Total something I think. They were the heavy duty type which was perfect in a bighorn Lifted the back 80mm Put a known load in the back and it hardly dropped compared to the old springs but even empty it would still polish the bump stops going over the rimitukas. Often upset v8 comadoors going up there though by staying with them. Couldnt hold them down the other side though.
If you can find an agent for Lovells buy them They were stiff when they needed to be and had all the flex in the world

Hey man just chucking a few ideas out there my 93 mu has 2" extended leafs with a few extra springs added to the pack this will raise it up to stock again and get you more flex wound up front torsion bars and extended shocks all round test fitted some 33s and jacked up the wheels to full flex didn't seem to have any rubbing problems

Just adding leaves to a spring reduces flex. 2 inch lift though should clear 33s. The Lovels I had worked well with 5 leaves because each leaf was 2/3 the thickness of a standard leaf.

Still trying to hunt down a pair- so far I have found 2 places that can supply them ironman and 4x4bits

We have two types of rear spring for the MU they are a heavy duty and extra heavy duty the cost is

1. Heavy duty $233.75+gst each
2. Extra heavy duty $261.25+gst each
3. Ubolts $33.00+gst per pair
4. Bush kit $82.50+gst
I have also included the prices for the bushes and ubolts as we find the original ubolts are usually to short and the bushes are worn.
