hey all im just in the prosess of doing my duel battery setup. What id like to know is can i take the main power feed to my isolater from the starter moter? because im thinking of takeing my feed of the big main constant power cable to the starter from the frist battery. I figure it should be ok as the starter only needs that feed when cranking and my duel battery system wont be needing the voltage while cranking.

Hi dude,
thers no real differance from the pos of the starter but for ease of instalation i'd take the pos lead from the main battery and run it to the solinoid and use the pos lead off the wiper moter to triger the solinoid as it only activates when the ignition is on.

cool i think ill take it of the starter then as i wont have cables running every where if i pik it up fromthe starter just a nice short little power feed. good idea about switching it of the wiper. thx grunter

The wiper motor piggy backing is the most common and easiest way of tapping into the ignition circut. I run my dual batts off it too.

Use a VSR - the batteries will automatically link when the starting battery voltage gets over 13.5, and drop off under 12.8. Benefit is you are charging the starting battery up a bit first before connecting the second battery.

The other way people do it is run a relay off the oil light. That way when the oil light goes out I.e engine running the relay closes which in turn closes a solenoid linking the second battery. That's if you want a start batt house batt setup. Otherwise you can benefit by just parallelling both batteries withoiut fancy switching but you loose the idea of always having a good start battery. But it will still give you longer before it goes flat load dependent.
