roof rack positioning?

Ok im planning on building/welding some roof racks for my mu an have run into positioning problems. Sifting through pics of mus i have seen most have their racks mounted on the main solid section of the roof but have seen some with a rackup front and another just above the rear glass. So given peoples experience, is it better to mount on the main roof section or can a rack be mounted on the rear section of roof?

Hi nut, Im making another rack for my 91 jack and the supports are placed over the window and door pillars.
