hi guys, thought i'd start the thread for my sas build and that way it might motivate me to keep updating things as i go.
took a leaf out of yarno's book and decided it was far easier and more approachable to get an existing coil sprung chassis and modify it to fit the mu shell.

so, one spare mu as the donor, mount locator shell, one cheap for maverick (gq patrol) and its underway

started cleaning up the chassis and removed the steering box to replace the input shaft seal [its leaking ]

thinking of modifying the patrol front grill to convert the mu to round lights, cut a section out the middle to make the widths equal but the overall height of the grill is still larger on the patrol and the corner indicator shape is slightly different so im not yet sure how to solve that problem and make them sit in the guards properly....

local auto sparkey said you will get more light out of rectangle light just replace the sealed beams with semi sealed halogens (cost me just under $300 each) when I looked at changing

I run the H4 semi seals with 90/130 watt halogen bulbs. They kick ass. Would still like HIDs though. My mate put HIDs in his 4 runner. I so jelous. Considering the change.

i brought hids for my lights and i also got new headlight
so much more light.
definatly recomend them
also they only cost 135 bucks for both lights.

thanks for the ideas guys. i wasnt looking at the front grill conversion for light brightness at all. i will also be running clear lenses and hid's once i get to that but it was more for a new look on the front, the square lights and plain-ish looking grill needs a little sprucing up so i thought i might try it. going to check the cut patrol grill against my spare mu to see if its close at all but i still havent quite thought of a way to fit it to the curved indicator unless i just cut out the patrol section and stick it in between the corners of the mu's normal grill...
ill keep pondering...

started rust killing and prepping the chassis for its paint job. going to paint whole chassis in bitumous black and go for a black and white scheme with springs and shocks etc to match the cow camoflauge paint job i have in mind at the end

Might as well buy a patrol you like the running gear you think the Mu grill plane and you might be right but wouldn't it be easier and cheaper just to buy a patrol

You are sadly mistaken. I do not like patrols. The mu's driveline is lacking in the extreme sense hence the conversion and I like the idea of a unique looking vehicle. Driveline and a grill hardy make a vehicle. Why be a sheep all the time and drive something hundreds of others drive?
