FYI, there is a site called autozone in the States. You can access manuals (not just engine) for just about any vehicle you can think of.Also a lot of non genuine and aftermarket parts. Sorry, cant post a link.

Hi Geeves

Do you know where I can get a copy of a manual that has 'blow ups' of the front suspension, I've got to do the bushes on my upper arm plus a joint on my steering idler for a wof..

Cheers

The bushes can be a pain if they are original rubber. You need a big press. Best way is take the arms off and take them to a local garage or engineer. Poly ones are much easier but they will always squeak once the grease comes out You cant get greasable pins. CRC will help till the next time you drive in the rain then squeak again. Idler and ball joint fairly easy

Sweet I found the manual on the other manual thread. (tfs/Mu workshop manuals (in zip file) http://www.mediafire.com/?cde7nc5v6j8d8)

Yeah those bushes sound like fun, I'm hoping to swap current rubber bushes like for like, I dont like the sound of the poly ones.. supposedly too much poly stiffens up your suspension..
I've got access to a 15ton press, just got to take it easy on it so not to bend the arm.. Rob you were saying cut a bit of angle iron to fit in the gap so the mounts dont push together, do you reckon a bit of pipe would do it as long as the I/D is greater then the O/D of the bushes..

A x member here (he sold his mu bought a surf dropped a lexus in and it hasnt gone right since) tried to do these by putting a socket on one side and a 12mm plate on the other to push it through useing a 14mm fine thread bolt to provide the push. Turned the 12mm plate into a funnel.
Dont know if 15 ton will do it.
As for poly bushes yes they will stiffen those joints that have side flex. I wouldnt use them on your rear srings or any shock but this joint only movres in 1 ark so they would be better than rubber.

Ah yes I think I read about that in another thread.. if the press doesn't work I'll try that.. maybe 15mm plate though :D

So the failed joint on the steering is a pin that joins the centre track rod to the pitman arm..
Apparently you cant replace just that pin you need to buy a new centre track rod.. $170 from holden

Do you know if thats the only way? other then second hand parts..

The current rubbers are held on with zip tie and wire combo so looks like someones done a rough one before...

The rubbers are normally wired on although some after market ones are zip tied. Also if boots have been replaced zip ties are most likely to have been used. BNT and Repco also sell that centre link but I think its called a drag link in there book. Not much cheaper though.
