Definatly sounds like an air leak. You can dismantle the pump and clean it. Mine stopped working because of a small flake of goo under the inner flap Otherwise the 3 orings in the filter are the only seals. Also look at your rubber hoses for splits at the ends.
Other common fault in older pumps is the front seal on the pump. This can be replaced without removing the pump but the pulleys do have to come off. There was a suggestion that a temp fix is a electric pump in the line to stop it sucking air but Lewis did this and a couple of months later it dumped a tank of fuel through that seal so I dont recommend it any more
SMOKE ON COLD START UP
Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
oops I might stay away from that then..
I was thinking of fitting an electric pump or a hand squeeze pump before the filter so that filter changes go a bit smoother.
I was thinking if I had a electric pump I could switch it on for first drive after a filter change just to get going a bit quicker then turn it off again, I dont know if diesel still flows through those inline pumps when their turned off?? A hand pump would do if not..
Well hopefully if I can find an air leak then I might solve all my problems anyway.. I'll have a look now, if no luck I might just buy a new one.. ($60ish off ebay)
