Cable ties aren't cutting it. Anyone have a tool I can borrow in the wellington region?
Cheers

CV banding tool?
Re: CV banding tool?
why does everyone have the same idea at the same time. Just doing a wheel bearing and cv replacement myself. I dont have the tool but have always used a pair of vice grips and a large screwdriver and lots of swearing
What sort of cable ties were you using? Ideal electrical in Guznee st have stainless steel cable ties that work well

Re: CV banding tool?
most places have cv clip tools, b and t, repco, maybe supercheap, i got mine off sulco was cheap as, best thing i have in the shed
Re: CV banding tool?
There is no room on the bighorns around the inner CV so you can't use anything with a large head. I used two medium ties chained.
Looked at the banding tools available, don't really want to spend any money if possible haha.

Re: CV banding tool?
the stainless cable ties have a tiny head no bigger than a 75mm nylon cable tie. They have a small ball that locks them permanently and you need a serious cutter to cut them. I think tho you have to buy a pack of 20 and 3 or 4 bucks each. It not nice when your last one slips as you are doing it up so it tightens into one of the vs in the boot. Hence the swear words. I had to reuse one of the old ties.
Re: CV banding tool
I worked it out by the last one of four boots.
Large size long nose pliers and a large flat screwdriver.
lay the screwdriver against the stainless tie clip. Grab the tie with the long nose pliers and roll against the screwdriver, this allows you to crank it up tight as [enough to cut the boot] and little stress.

job done. Im using this nowdays.
Screwdriver method does work but if the screwdriver slips and you are lucky it pierces the cv boot.
