Is this shackle almost inverted becouse the leafs are too short or the spring needs weight on it to bring it into correct position- my other factory leaf has the shackle pointer vertical with the tyre and weight on it...

Thatll just invert as soon as you put weight on it?

Fully unloaded the shackle should be dead vertical or maybe a couple degrees back. Not that far back as it is in the pic. I wouldnt bother trying to make them work anymore than you have as they are obviously the wrong spring unfortunately

Epic, now that the springs are off I can see that the Ironman ones are approx 80mm shorter than the stock ones.
Well that was a fun few hours of discovery.

Didnt you measure the inner spring by laying a string on it at the start of this exercise and find the straight length the same? I was sure we were just looking at too much arch.
Either way at this point those springs have to go back. You could put a crowbar on the shackle as you lower it to force to go back but first time you lift a wheel it will invert again unless those springs sag the first 30 mm in the first drive round the block.

Yes but I have since discovered that even though both pairs are the same length with different arch angles, when you get a lifted pair they will have to be longer so that when they are resting they measure the same if you measured a level line from one pair eye to eye vs the new pair eye to eye. Does that make sence? You can look at the pictures to see the result of 2different pairs that are the same length (with a peace of string) but not the same length if you were to measure a level line from eye to eye.
