before you cut the spring be aware of the following
LTSA rules on modified vehicles are very definate on this. Cut suspension or steering parts are forbodden End of story. Reason is that heat damages the intended temper in the metal and even a grinder produces a lot of heat. You could try and convince your wof guy that it was cut with a hacksaw but he is as likely to believe you as I am.
I would be taking a lot of measurements of those springs and getting terraquuip to compare to specification. Something here is really not right
Masurements that matter will be
total spring length measured around the outside of the curve eye center to eye center
straight line eye to eye
hight of arch to inside of spring

yes the rules do say that, but id rather have cut springs than a chewed up chassis like what happened in my bighorn with lovell lifted springs, if you cut and paint them and make both sides the same no one will know

Valid point Geeves, on the other hand I would like to actually get these in without going through the process of convincing the guys at terraquip that these require replacement and hope that the next pair are better shaped- then hope that there actually is enough room in the trucks front mount to fit the second leaf! Also I would rather cut this leaf down slightly than cut the trucks mount.
At the end of the day, leaf springs are not that uniform so if it is a tidy job with some paint to match the rest I am confident that you would not suspect any cutting had been performed- well except you Geeves who now knows otherwise.
Chop chop, get to it!

Cheers Rob, looking into how stiff these will be once they are in now- also going to get the warrantee with the additional writing that says the manufacturer is ok with cutting them and the warrenty is still valid.
Ill get this before I do anything to them.

Ive been thinking
We suggested using a wedge or block at the front to try and line up the spring but thinking about this it would be easier at the back. You could use a bigger block and have the flexibility of the shackle

Thats a good point, payday tomorrow so Ill be looking to get it sorted this weekend! One way or another im going to get these in and see how they perform!
Only catch is I need to get a new pair of shackles- my current ones are pitted pretty badly- any places in Wellington that might have ones to suit the Mu?
