i did have ONE car however that read low (i.e was doing 107ish when indicating 100 on needle AND digital speedo) instead of high and it was corrected by replacing the cluster.

Did it read high afterwards ie 107 when doing 100

I know there are heaps of variables but if the creators just said "our speedos are 99% as long as you have x brand and model tyre, brand new, inflated to y psi and if you change these parameters its your problem to make an allowance" To say our speedo is guaranteed to be out by z% seems nuts

I think i may have been a bit ambiguous.

The data FROM the speed sensor is adjusted by the set factor in the car configuration file, so if the wheel speed sensor is reading 100kmh it would display the adjusted value, so lets use 7% as an example it would say 107kmh. In no situation would we ever say that the speed is this EXACT percentage out, we would check the figure and determine whether or not it is within ford motor companys acceptable range for a given vehicle.

Of course if you adjust the tyre size, or even if the tyre has less tread than factory, the speed read at the speed sensor will be innacurate, however minor or major it may be. This assumed "speed" will still be adjusted by the given value.

The only way you could allow for people changing tyre sizes would be to allow us to change the calibrated rolling circumfrence of the tyre so that we could work it out and put it into the computer, however they dont let us do that.

Its all an arse covering technique to stop law-suits basically.

I got pissed off and sent an e-mail to Isuzu nz about this problem, and was very surprised when the General Manager ( Murray Greenhalgh ) of Isuzu NZ rang me to talk about the problem!
He has agreed to send a new D-max to a instrument repair specialist to see what is involved in recalibrating the speedo , and will get back to me in a couple of weeks hopefully with a solution to the problem. :D

I recently had an issue with my 98 Wizard fuel gauge not working [needle fell off].While replacing the gauge I took the speedo needle off and after I put it all back together speedo was reading 25 kph fast.I took the clear cover off the instrument cluster and drove it like that while I got the speedo right by trial and error.Had to take the needle off and move it about 20 kph below the stop. It's still about 2 kph fast but I can live with that.Regards,Harry.
