cv axle
Re: cv axle
i am wondering if i have a problem with my cv joints i have manual locking hubs and when i lock them in with the wheels off the ground the left hand side turns freely but the right hand one has a hard spot in it when turned by hand the cv shafts were both replaced i pulled the diff housing out and did the lot this only seems to happen when the suspension is fully extended as if i put the jack under the rhs and jack it up off the floor it turns ok
Re: cv axle
i may be wrong but a normal limited slip diff. "stock" only turns one side at a time , ie lift left & it turns & vise versa.....does it perform well off road you may be over thinking it as i often do..
Re: cv axle
does sound like a cv issue
Have you done a suspension lift? If so did you flip the top ball joint and or trim the bump stop. If so you might be operating the cv at its limit which is not good. Are they genuine or aftermarket cvs

Re: cv axle
they are after market cvs i wish i had done my home work better before i purchased them i didn't do any modifications other than screwing up torsion bar 15mm higher than standard spec
Re: cv axle
15mm isnt a lift. Only other test is to remove the cv and move it throught its full range by hand.
How much of a tight spot is it? It might be nothing worth worrying about

Re: cv axle
i am getting it passed for registration next week i hope . once i get that done i will take it for a good run and put it in 4wd and try it again maybe it is just a bit tight i havn't had it in 4wd yet
Re: cv axle
G'day guys! First post here.. anyways I've just purchased a 96 Jackaroo (Manual Hubs) and it was missing the front left cv shaft. I've purchased a new one but I am unsure of what holds it into the hub assembly? I can see there is a small cut out for what would appear to be a cir clip? but is there anything else that goes on the shaft before the cir clip ie. splined washer or the like? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: cv axle
the spline is part of the locking hub There should be some shims to adjust the preload on the hub seal
Re: cv axle
ahh i see! Is there anywhere i can source these?
Re: cv axle
I got mine from the local Holden Dealer.
