Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
The small rectangular pumps work ok, (Facet is one brand) I think that they are around $35. on ebay, $65. locally, put it just before the fuel filter. When I mentioned injector lines I was talking about the steel lines going from the injector pump to the injectors (just to be clear), they fit the wrong way too, resulting in clouds of smoke.

Looking at the back of the injection pump- 10 oclock position goes to cylinder 1, 8 oclock to injector 2, 4 oclock to injector 3, 2 oclock to injector 4
Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
thank you will check it out tomorrow afternoon
Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
just wondering roadrunner i looked on ebay and found a pump so do i need a low pressure one and would it have to be hooked up so it has constant pressure or only when the motor is running and thanks very much for the work shop manual geeves it has a very informative trouble shooting section

Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
Low pressure is the safest bet, 5 psi should be good, more pressure than that is better for performance but increases the likelyhood of the injection pump developing a leak through old seals (usually the throttle shaft seal). My pump comes on when I turn the ignition on, the small pumps have 2 non return valves built in to them, so fuel can't drain back into the fuel tank overnight. I wouldn't be too concerned about a bit of smoke on cold start up if it only lasts for 15 seconds or so, most of the older diesels do this!
Re: SMOKE ON COLD START UP
roderunner i checked out my fuel lines from pump to injectors they are all ok i also ordered fuel pump it should be here by early next week i also found a very small leak from hand primer that wouldn,t be helping would it ?

No definitely allowing air into the system , which gives a crap injector spray possibly resulting in unburnt diesel during the combustion event =white smoke!
