I was out having a play the other day and noticed that in low ratio on 'full lock' turning there was a slow clicking coming from the drivers side front wheel..
I'm presuming the free wheeling hubs on the way out..
Does that sound right and if I'm replacing one is it worth doing the other at the same time?
Cheers..

cheers,
cool probably cheaper to pull and old one off too..
just gotta make sure I get one thats not knackered
will it just steadily get worse and louder?

Re: Free wheeling hub clicking..
Mine clicks as soon as you put it in 4wd - spose I should really get a spare and put it on the bench ready to fit
Re: Free wheeling hub clicking..
Mines had a click for years. Getting it cheap and full of sand was not a wise move. Now it clunks as well when turning. Next time I have the hub apart I will replace it. Original had damage from running on a stuffed needle bearing in the hub and had too much side play in the axle for the seal to keep the water out of the wheel bearing.
If it blows completely you will notice

sounds ominous..
will it lock up if it blows or just make a hell of a noise and carry on crunching all the way home?..

If it blows one of 2 things happen. It locks and will not turn or it explodes and no connection between wheel and axle. Either way unlock hubs and drive home in 2wd unless you can change it on the track
Re: Free wheeling hub clicking..
I'm going to have to replace my l/h inner cv boot as its split, I noticed that the axle has a has about 10-15mm play in and out, way more then the otherside..
do you think I should be looking at replacing it at same time as boot whist I've got it all apart or has it got more life in it you think?
Cheers

Re: Free wheeling hub clicking..
Maybe you have just broken the circlip that holds the outer CV into the hub?
When you move it does the whole CV move or just the axle contained within the boots?
As in Item 26 below.

Re: Free wheeling hub clicking..
Axle is free to move in and out in the inner cv. Its the combination of the circlip the shims under it and a thrust washer in the back of the hub assembly that prevent movement. If you are checking the thrust washer you might as well replace the hub seal and check the needle roller at the same time and repack your wheel bearings. The water in your free wheels likely came in through the hub seal so will of got your wheel bearings as well. This might have something to do with your brake problem as well
