Be careful just winding the fuel up mate, super easy to cook the motor.
Probably should invest in an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) gauge.

Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (egr) will raise cylinder temps.
Blanking off the ports is cheaper, easier and better in both the long and short term.
